ARC Review: Slashed (Extreme Risk #3) by Tracy Wolff

Book Blurb

Do nice guys always finish last? In the new Extreme Risk novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tracy Wolff, a burnt-out underdog and a vulnerable tomboy defy the pressure to be perfect and go after what they really want.

Bighearted and easygoing, Luc Jennings is falling behind in a family of serious overachievers. While he may be decent enough at snowboarding to turn pro and rack up some sponsors, he’s never topped any podiums—unlike his friends Z, Ash, and Cam. Luc’s always been head over heels for Cam Bradley, but she’s never seen him as anything more than a friend. Now, after years of coming in second, Luc can’t take it anymore—especially if it means watching Cam chase another guy.

Cam hangs out almost exclusively with dudes, and that’s fine by her. She’d much rather be shredding at the Olympics than primping in the mirror. Cam’s wildest dreams have a way of coming true—except when it comes to getting her longtime crush and best friend, Z Michaels, to notice her. Then her mother suddenly shows up after being gone for, like, ever, and Cam’s whole world comes crashing down. Desperate for a place to lay low, she turns to the one person who’s always had her back.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

In the newest Extreme Risk novel, Cam has finally accepted Z is with Ophelia. Unfortunately she wasn’t quite there the night she and Luc spent together. She completely freaked running out of the condo. Her relationship with Luc has been strained ever since. She hates how things are between them. She isn’t quite sure what to do about it.

Her life is about to change when her mother comes back after being gone for seventeen years. Cam is furious that her father allows that woman back into his house and his life. She refuses to be anywhere near her mother. Cam ends up with Luc at his condo.

Things seem to be getting better between them but then their relationship turns physical. Cam and Luc both like the direction they are moving. However their insecurities start messing with their heads and their relationship suffers.

When Cam gets shocking news she doesn’t know what she will do next. Luc has to fight for her in order to help her when she needs him most.

I love this series. This group of extreme snowboarders have been fun to get to know. They all have issues and baggage. The four friends: Z, Ash, Luc and Cam; have been friends for years and I enjoy watching them overcome their issues and finding love. Z and Ash have already found love. Cam was crushed when Z chose someone else. However Luc has been in love with her for years and she never realized it.

In this book she and Luc start moving into new territory with their relationship. They definitely seem to belong together. However the author decided that they both had issues that would interfere. Cam’s feelings of rejection and abandonment competed with Luc’s issues of inadequacy. It seems that parents can really cause damage to their children. Excellent story and addition to the series. I hope to see more of how these characters continue with their lives. I give it a 4 out of 5.
