Review: Accelerate (Hotwired #1) by Tracy Wolff

Book Blurb

A sexy carjacker takes a would-be starlet for the ride of her life as a pulse-pounding new series from New York Timesbestselling author Tracy Wolff begins.
Once the brains behind a car-boosting ring, Nic Medina has spent the last three years playing it straight. Now drag racers flock to his L.A. auto shop, Hotwired, for a shot at going head-to-head with the man himself. But when a crooked cop gives Nic a treacherous ultimatum—steal ten high-end cars or watch his nephew disappear into the system—he makes the only choice he can, one that puts the life he’s worked so hard for at risk. No sooner does Nic agree than he spots some nasty competition—and a gorgeous bystander in harm’s way.
A small-town girl with Hollywood dreams, Jordan Bass never expected to be swept up in a real-life drama. But that’s exactly what happens when she witnesses a violent crime. And when a smoldering stranger takes the wheel and practically kidnaps her in a desperate bid to keep her safe, she’s not sure whether to scream . . . or kiss him. Nic’s bad news—but the real bad guys aren’t above silencing a witness. On a collision course with danger, Jordan finds herself falling for the man whose street smarts are keeping her alive . . . and whose touch puts her in high gear.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Jordan is a college student and waitress trying to make a good life for herself. She has limited income so when she needed a car someone she works with suggested a police auction. She was able to buy a good car but the upholstery was destroyed when they searched the car. She finds herself at the drag races looking for Raul, a guy who can fix the upholstery cheap. She is uncomfortable being around all these people and she fights back memories of what happened three years ago but she is determined.

After finding Raul, Jordan and her friend Vi stop to watch The Race. Nic Medina is racing and he is one of the best. He owns the garage, Hotwired, where everyone wants to take their cars. Jordan is shocked at how hot he is and the instant attraction she feels. She has felt nothing in three years and then suddenly she sees Nic and that changes.

Nic did seven years in prison for stealing cars thanks to a dirty cop. Unfortunately that dirty cop is blackmailing him to steal another car. His nephew and sister are on the line so he has no choice. He is shocked when he learns that the car he is stealing is Jordan’s. She also knows who he is and he is forced to kidnap her. The theft goes bad in an instant. Nic didn’t want to involve her but he has no choice in order to keep his family safe. Jordan is thrust into a chaotic world that is dangerous. There is no going back as she gets to know Nic and his friends. She realizes what she has been missing. She refuses to let Nic put his life in danger to save her.

I love this author. I’ve read her Extreme Risk series and loved them. So when I saw this book and learned of the new series, I couldn’t pass it up. I was not disappointed. The book immediately throws you into the world of illegal drag racing. So the vibe is excitement from the beginning. Jordan is hesitant and guarded which you learn stems from a traumatic experience. You get glimpses of it as she fights back memories as the story progresses. I felt for her immediately. I was totally in her corner from day one. Then when she sees Nic and the sparks fly instantly. I could just picture her shock.

Nic was an awesome character. He is trying to protect those he loves. He is extremely loyal but his guilt is overwhelming. His self-hate is sad to see. He is such an awesome person that blames himself for everything even things out of his control. You can see how broken he and the other characters are. You see how they have tried to move on and how they have dealt with their pasts.

This first book is a great beginning. It pulls you in and throws you into the chaos of Nic Medina’s life. Then once the dust settles a bit another whirlwind breaks out involving Hotwired. I can’t wait to read the next book. I give this one a 5 out of 5.
