Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Morgan is visiting her mother in Vero Beach, Florida. It has been awhile since she has seen her mom. She isn’t very excited to be spending her summer break there. Things aren’t what she expected. She learns her mother is married now to Tammer. He is a treasure hunter and she apparently has a baby sister. Morgan is shocked and angry about being kept in the dark about everything. There are more secrets but her mother and Tammer explain that they will tell her soon.

Not too long after she gets to Florida, she gets bad news about her father. She is devastated. Her sorrow and stress cause some strange things to happen. She has excuricating pain in her legs. Her mother informs her that this is normal during phasing. Her mother shows Morgan what they truly are, mermaids. Morgan doesn’t believe it at first, but she saw it with her own eyes. She also learns that the world she entered isn’t exactly safe. The Dartmoth family doesn’t like her mother or Tammer. They hate her because she is a halflimg.

As a result Akin Dartmoth threatens Morgan. Once at a restaurant that she almost burns down afterwards and another time after a swimming lesson from her parents. Thayde comes to her rescue. He is the boy she has been dreaming about. A war seems to be brewing and Morgan seems to be right in the middle of it.

I really liked this book. It was full of shocking secrets and merpeople. A nice paranormal twist in that Morgan is a part of that world but has no idea. It was an interesting plot. The characters were intriguing and immersed in this war between families. It had been brewing for years. Morgan seems to be the last straw.

She is someone extremely special in the mer-world. She learns she is the future of their people. It is a fast paced story full of adventure, love and curses. I definitely recommend this first book and I can’t wait to read the others. I give it a 4 out of 5.
