Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Alexa Harmon grew up with nothing after her father left.  She and her brother had to care for their ill mother.  Then five years ago Tyler died in a motorcycle accident leaving Alexa alone to care for her mother.  She needed stability and security.  Grant was the perfect choice.  She is so thankful that he is interested in her.  He makes it possible for her to do what she needs to do.  However when Alexa is hurt after an argument with Grant she runs to former flame and best friend of her brother’s, Maverick.
She fears the feelings that seeing Mav stirs.  She returns to Grant and the life she is determined to have.  Everything changes as Grant becomes more and more unhinged.  The last straw is when he throws her out of the house during a thunderstorm with nothing but her cat.
She is done and goes with Mav when he offers her a ride.  She knows she can’t go back and can’t believe the woman she had become while with Grant.  She is stronger and has Mav back in her life.  She will be rid of Grant.  He refuses to let her go and it is going to take all her strength to make it to the other side.
I love this author.  She creates tough, smart characters that you want to get behind as the story unfolds. In the beginning of this story I couldn’t stand Alexa.  She was so weak and believed the things Grant told her.  I couldn’t get how she let him get away with how he treated her.  She thought she was lucky to have him and the life he was giving her.  She made me so mad I stopped reading the story twice disgusted.
I persevered through until she realized how stupid she was being.  After that point I finally was able to get into the story without truly hating the main character.  I like how the author gave a glimpse of Grant being OCD and trying to control everything.  When his past was revealed, I wasn’t that surprised.  His escalation to the violence was a suspenseful part of the story.  You knew he would strike just not when or how.  He was a great villain that was excellently written.

The author also gives the reader an inside view into Maverick’s life as a member of the Raven Riders.  I like them all in how they honor and protect each other.  The characters that are explored during the story in the Ravens are awesome.  I want them watching my back.  It was a great story of loss, heartbreak and obsession.  Alexa also came around so I didn’t have to hate her throughout the whole story.  So I give this a 4 out of 5.
