Hundreds by Pepper Winters

Publication Date: May 2nd, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

“Elder is the most dangerous man I’ve met. Not because he can hurt me but because he has the power to steal my heart.”

Pimlico used silence as her ultimate shield. But then she was stolen by a thief who became her master and almost-friend. Life will never be innocent again, but perhaps the crimes Elder wants to teach her will keep her nightmares at bay.

Elder thought he could take what he wanted and sell Pim once he was through. However, that was before she did the impossible and stole his last thread of affection.

Now, they have a choice—give in to fate’s odd chemistry or forever remain strangers.

Pim wants Elder’s secrets. Elder wants Pim’s past. To earn such gifts, tasks must be completed, and Pim must do what Elder says—become like him, become a thief—only then will she have the money to buy her freedom.

Review by Toot

"Whatever was between us couldn’t be labelled but it had threaded us together, despite our uncommon introduction."

Hundreds is Pepper Winters third installment in her continuing Dollar series. This book can’t be read as a standalone because each of the books in this 5-part series is just one big story arc. Now, with that being said, Hundreds picks up right where Dollars left off, mainly with our heroine and hero trying to figure out what the heck just happened (*it’s the Dollar cliffhanger). Both are trying to come to terms with what just happened in their own way, mostly Elder deciding to push Pimlico away for her own good and Prim deciding she’s not going to be a victim anymore. So the dynamics have changed again due to the Dollar cliffy.

“The moment you found me, I didn’t stand a chance.” His lips turned down, his eyes becoming sad. “I hate that that’s true. For both of us.”

The thing about this series is that it seems to be a book of contradictions - push and pull, choices and consequences, master and slave, this for that but also the power dynamic is in constant play. You think for a long time that Pim is the victim and don’t get me wrong, she is but she does small things in defiance even under the worst circumstances. Then there’s Elder who you think is the powerful one with all the money but with one word or action from Pim, he crumbles like a paper bill. If anything, Pepper weaves a story full of dichotomy that I haven’t seen in any other book series. Whether actions are right or wrong is in constant debate and will make you rethink from different points of view every action. For instance, what one person thinks is a deplorable action can be the very brick in which to build a stronger foundation and what is one persons’ solid foundation can crumble to rubble when one brick is removed.

“But Pim was worth it. She was worth every penny. Even if she cost me everything.”
This theme continues throughout the entire story arc or at least the first three so far. I could go on and on with the comparisons but just know they are there because it’s a huge part of the story and what makes the entire Dollar world so amazing.
I don’t want to give more away but just to recap the series so far:
Pimlico was a bought sex slave under a very cruel master who tortured her.
Elder saw her/wanted her/stole her/sequestered her on a yacht.
There’s a love story here……. somewhere?

And this is 3 of 5 – next is Thousands and Millions
