FREE BOOK Review: The Vampire Hunter's Daughter (The Vampire Hunter's Daughter #1) by Jennifer Malone Wright

Book Blurb

Fourteen-year-old Chloe witnesses her mother’s murder at the hands of a vampire. Before the vampire can kidnap her, there is an unexpected rescue by a group of vampire hunters. Overwhelmed by the feeling of safety, Chloe passes out and they whisk her away to their small community.

When Chloe wakes, she comes face to face with the only other living relative, besides her mother, whom she has ever met: her grandfather. Chloe’s mother kept her hidden from the family; now, Chloe tries to unveil the family secrets.

Through her grandfather, she learns her mother was a vampire hunter. In fact, her entire family is descended from the powerful bloodlines of vampire hunters. Chloe agrees to join the family she has never known for one reason only: Chloe vows to kill the vampire responsible for her mother’s murder.

With vengeance in her soul, Chloe is even more determined to follow through on her vow when she discovers the true identity of her enemy and how he is connected to her.

The Vampire Hunter's Daughter is the first in a series of short stories by Jennifer Malone Wright.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Chloe lives with her mom.  Her dad died when she was little.  It has always been just the two of them.  They have moved around a lot.  Her mom would just get this feeling to move and pack their stuff.  Then away they would go.
One night, however, that all changes.  Her mom wakes her up in the middle of the night panicked.  She tells Chloe to hide.  Strange men appear talking to her mother about a strange man.  Her mother seems to know who they are.  They threaten her.  Chloe can’t hide while her mother is hurt.  She bursts from her hiding place and realizes her life has just changed.  There are vampires in her bedroom and they are there for her.
This is the very beginning of Chloe’s journey.  It was an extremely fast read containing just the taste of the story that is coming.  Chloe’ life is turned upside down as she learns who and what her mother was.  She learns that she has been surrounded by secrets and even in hiding with no clue herself.

Her battle is just beginning.  The author gets you started, then abruptly stops.  I wish she would have developed more that of what she included in this first part.  It appeared choppy in places.  I also feel that there should have been more.  I don’t feel it was enough to really keep you reading.  For as short as it was, it needed to grab you quickly and forcefully into the story.  Capture your attention enough to really want more.  I don’t think it did that.  So I only give it a 3 out of 5.
