FREE BOOK Review: Captured (The Captive Series Book 1) by Erica Stevens

Book Blurb

Blood Slave.

Captured, taken from her beloved family and woods, Aria’s biggest fear is not the imminent death facing her, but that she will be chosen as a blood slave for a member of the ruling vampire race. No matter what becomes of her though, Aria knows she must keep her identity hidden from the monsters imprisoning her. She has already been branded a member of the rebellion, but the vampires don't know the true depth of her involvement with it, and they must never know.

Though hoping for death, Aria’s world is turned upside down when a vampire named Braith steps forward to claim her. He delays her execution, but Aria knows it’s only a matter of time before he drains her, and destroys her. Especially once she learns his true identity as a prince within the royal family, who started the war that ultimately brought down humankind, reducing them to nothing more than servants and slaves. Aria is determined to hate the prince, determined not to give into him in any way, but his strange kindness and surprising gentleness astonish her. Torn between her loyalties to the rebellion, and her growing love for her greatest enemy, Aria struggles to decide between everything she has ever known and a love she never dreamed of finding.

Mature YA/New Adult. This book contains some language, violence, and sexual situations. Recommended for ages sixteen and up.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Arianna lives in a world run by vampires and she is a member of the human rebels.  She is captured by the vampires.  The story starts pretty intensely.  The choices are dying or becoming a blood slave.  Not much of a choice to wish for.
The author paints a dreary picture of what it is like to be a human.  I like Aria pretty quickly.  She is courageous and not afraid to die.  Where she ends up is shocking.  She didn’t want to end up a blood slave, but the prince is not what she or the reader immediately expected.
It is interesting as the story goes along and Aria becomes confused.  She started having feelings for Braith.  She, of course, fights them and has guilt.  Braith can’t believe why he is doing what he is with her.  He can’t explain his actions either, just that he is drawn to her.

It drew me in pretty quickly and I kept reading to see what would happen next.  The ending was shocking.  Neither of them knows what is really happening.  They are assuming and believing the worst and only what they think is true.  I can’t wait to read the next book.  This one gets a 4 out of 5.
