Review: Kate (The Dimarco Series Book 5) by Jennifer Hanks

Book Blurb

Passion ignites in this thrilling story of a woman trying desperately to protect her heart and a man’s determination to show her love.

Disappointment. Rejection. Loneliness.

Feelings that have been suffocating single mom Kate Miller for years.

Moving to New Hope to raise her six-year-old son is supposed to be a fresh start, a way to put her past in the rearview mirror and focus on the road ahead. She isn’t looking for friendship or a relationship, especially with one very sexy detective who won’t stay out of her life or out of her mind.

No matter how hard she pushes him away.

Luke Dimarco is a man who’s faced his mortality. After surviving a shooting, in which he was the target of revenge, he understands life is fleeting. When Kate explodes into his world, showing him a glimpse of a future filled with all the things he craves, he makes the decision to grab a hold and not let go.

Even if it means sacrificing what he already has.

However, a darkness still surrounds the small town of New Hope and they will learn the only way to keep each other safe is to stand together. Luke will need to show Kate that trust is not just a word, but given to the right person, a promise.

But is it a promise he can keep?

This is the fifth book in The Dimarco Series. Can be read as a standalone.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

I just discovered this author and the Dimarco family who I loved instantly.  All the testosterone in one family and poor Grace the only girl.  I am definitely going back and reading the books I’ve missed.  The characters are real and imperfect.
Kate has a lot of insecurities left by her ex-husband.  She is a single mom trying to make ends meet.  She doesn’t have time or the desire to let someone in to hurt her again.  Totally closed off and extremely sassy.  I liked her instantly.  She gets to the point she is done and then lets it fly.  It was fun to read.
Luke is a Dimarco and a cop.  So, he is determined and bossy.  I love how they first encounter each other.  He comes across as a complete jerk.  So, you can just imagine how things are going to go when they see each other again.  She is less than pleased.  It is hilarious to watch her ignore him.
However, the Dimarcos refuse to leave her be and start to embrace her into the clan.  I love that part of the characters.  They offer help and acceptance. Which wears her down to Luke.  However, she does make him work for it.

The author presents this story where Luke has to use actions to show his intentions because Kate doesn’t rely on words.  Then add the crap his brothers throw at him which adds to the story.  I enjoyed reading the book and getting to know the characters and the family.  I give it a 5 out of 5.
