"What are 5 things fans don't know about the book and 5 things people don't know about you."

Five things fans don’t know about the book

1) Paul and Hannah, the fake names Robert purchases for Cole and Lily, were actually the original names for those characters in my first versions of this story.

2) Cole went through numerous name changes until I settled on his name.

3) The layout of the city where Elsa lives, including the train track and the cemetery, is very, very loosely based on an area of my hometown.

4) Jonathan was originally going to be Ashley and Lily’s cousin.

5) This entire series was once a 30,000 word novella that I wrote as a teenager.

Five things fans may not know about me

1) I love carrot cake, like Ashley, and blueberry pancakes, like Lily.

2) I don’t like chocolate or peanut butter (though mint chocolate chip ice cream is exempt from this dislike, for some reason).

3) I used to be right-handed. As a child, I trained myself to be left-handed because someone told me left-handed people were creative.

4) Christmas is my favorite holiday.

5) My favorite animal is a penguin.

Toot's Review

The Children and The Blood is the first book a UF/YA series.

So here's a little synopsis for you and I'll try to stray from spoilers:

Cole is a typical teen with a horrible home life. His real parents are dead and his guardians are Their interactions with him seem false, they don't seem to like him at all and they make him see specialists all the time. One fateful night he gets into a car wreck and his guardians have one of the specialists make a house call. He talks through what happened but when they part company, his guardians attack him, WTF! He escapes and decides to get some answers from the doctor/specialist because it seemed like he initiated the attack after he left. Cole soon finds himself thrown into a new bizarre world of Wizards and guardian, himself, to one very special little girl.

Ashley grew up a very sheltered little girl with a totally absent father. She only had her younger sister as a companion. The two were inseparable until one night when the bad men came, killed her father and the two sisters become separated. Ashley now finds herself on the run, hunted and no one she can trust. She also seems to be setting fires wherever she goes?

From the get-go, this book draws you in. It's completely action-packed and the author keeps you guessing. She gives you little nuggets as to what her UF world encompasses as it unfolds to the main characters but be warned, this is the first book in the series and is a total cliff-hanger. There is no HEA or conclusion in the story. Think of it as the first 45 minutes of a movie and honestly, it really had that feel as you're reading it. The action is explosive, well written and very unique. Nothing cliche here. As for the characters, you really get a good well rounded sense of them and can easily picture them in your mind. No one is safe and the author takes full advantage of that in her writing as well. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book and adding it to my TBR pile.
