Review: Chaos (Mayhem #3) by Jamie Shaw

Book Blurb

From the moment she saw Shawn Scarlett perform at a school talent show, Kit Larson has loved two things: the guitar, and the gorgeous, green-eyed boy who inspired her to play. But one careless night in high school shatters her hope of ever being more than a notch on his bedpost.

Six years, two bands, and one mostly-mended heart later, Kit’s about to make her rock star dreams a reality as the new guitarist for Shawn’s band, The Last Ones to Know. He may not remember their reckless night together, but Kit has never forgotten… and she’s determined to make him eat his heart out.

The release of their new album means a month cooped up on a tour bus, sleeping inches away from the ridiculously sexy musician she’s never quite gotten over. And as Kit gets to know the real Shawn—not Shawn Scarlett, the rock god, the player—their attraction becomes too hot to resist. But the past is paved with secrets, and when they finally surface, Kit could lose everything: the band, the music, her dreams… and Shawn.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Kit can play the guitar. It’s all she ever wanted to do after she watched her high school crush, Shawn play. She is determined to tell him what he has done for her. After she does in a big way, he leaves and never looks back.

Six years later she finds herself auditioning for Last Ones to Know, the band she loved in high school. She comes face to face with Shawn again. He appears not to recognize her. She is relieved and angry at the same time. When she joins the band she tries to keep everything professional.

The difficult part is she never got over Shawn. She also knows better to get her heart broken again by the same person. However when the band goes on tour, they are together all the time. The chemistry between Kit and Shawn is hard for them to ignore. Kit starts letting Shawn back into her heart. Then everything starts falling apart when Shawn suggests they keep their relationship a secret from the rest of the band. Doubt creeps in as Kit wonders where she stands. Her feelings spill out at the worst time and everything falls apart.

I love this series. The members of the band are fun to read about. I was excited to read about Shawn. The author really shined a bit more light on his past and who Kit was. I loved her instantly. She is sassy and strong. Growing up with four older brothers how could she not?

She did have some avoidance issues because of her brothers. I didn’t like how she lied to everyone. In some instances the reader completely understands. In others, she should have just said what needed to be said. Her fears and insecurities got into the way. Shawn was in the same boat. He was afraid of ruining everything if he admitted what he did. The two of them almost ruined everything because of it. It was a great journey for the characters and the reader. I give it a 4 out of 5.
