Jax by Kym Grosso is her 7th installment in her Immortals of New Orleans series and is Jax and Katrina’s story.

Jax is the Alpha of the Agrestis Wolves. We’ve met him in previous books. He’s an arrogant Alpha male wolf shifter, who has also been around the block. He’s smart, sexy, in control and rules with an iron fist…..well until he’s kidnapped. In book 6, Jax is kidnapped and book 7 picks right back up. Jax has been held for about 6 weeks and knows he needs to get away. He has plotted and planned and has found his opening to flee. When his plan comes together and he takes his shot, he runs into a stumbling block called Kat. She is also being held and Jax has the opportunity to save her but only at his own risk. Of course, Jax does the noble thing and rescues her too but at what cost? Kat is his enemy. Jax and Kat have some history. They met at a party and sparks flew only to then be dowsed before a fire could ignite. Kat let everyone believe that Jax tried to force a mating on her the night they met, forever tarnishing this uber Alpha’s reputation and straining the alliance he had with her brother. You see, Kat is not only a wolf shifter but she is born from an Alpha, sister to another Alpha and has been prophesied to also have an Alpha mate. Because of all the Alpha, she has also been kidnapped repeatedly by some supernatural baddies and her magik is being syphoned from her for unknown reasons. The only thing she has been told by these baddies is that whoever her mate is, she’ll kill him……..just fabulous! So you can see why Kat kept Jax at bay but now, Mother Nature has had enough of her foolishness and the two are once again thrown together and Jax is going to clear the air with her once and for all as well as track down these baddies and show them who’s truly the ultimate Alpha!

I love me some PNR especially when it involves, shapeshifters and vamps. I especially love the Immortals Of New Orleans shifter stories. They are always fun, full of uber alpha males and have lots of action. Jax is no exception. Jax’s book is chalk full of smexyiness at its best including an Alpha who loves to walk around naked *grin*. Even though Kat isn’t an Alpha herself, it does run in her blood and she has a hard time submitting to anyone let alone trusting anyone fully. She’s been dully scared by all these kidnappings and has keep it secret out of fear until Jax comes along. He’s not willing to take anything less than her trust and submission. He will also do whatever it takes to keep the woman he believes to be his mate safe, even if it means his death!

I enjoyed the push and pull between the two alpha personalities. The book has a strong BDSM element to it in order to establish the dominance Jax needs and to show he’s the top dog. It also leads to some steamy sex scenes. I will say though that I felt there were parts which seemed a bit redundant to me and the flow was stagnant at times. Especially in the beginning. Kat repeatedly, over and over and over again explains why she did what she did and then Jax is having to explain it again over and over again ad nauseum. I also didn’t fall in love with the supporting characters as I have in the past books with their supporting cast. Don’t get me wrong, I did love some of the byplay but at times the scenes with them felt a bit forced and unnecessary.

Other than those nitpicks, I did enjoy the story and I think it was a great addition to the series.
