FREE BOOK Review: Existence (Existence Trilogy #1) by Abbi Glines

Book Blurb

What happens when you're stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.

Pagan Moore doesn't cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.

Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead.

Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.

He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Pagan can see spirits, ghosts, lost souls or whatever you call them. She has been able to all her life. If she ignores them, they usually go away. However on the first day of her senior year, she sees the spirit of a boy outside the school door. She tries to ignore him, but he finds her in school. He talks to her! She is shocked. He is the first to do so.

He keeps showing up and even tries keeping her at school when she decides to leave. Leif, the quarterback, has upset her and she leaves anyway. She gets into an accident and her life changes forever.

The spirit shows up as a student at her school named Dank Walker. Pagan is stunned and doesn’t understand how this is possible. She is also drawn to him. Dank seems to care for her and wants to take care of her. Yet he continually pushes her away saying he can’t have her. Pagan is constantly confused about her feelings. A new spirit comes and tells her it was anointed. She is scared when this occurs. Dank is furious and swears he will protect her.

Then he completely disappears and no one at school remembers him but her. She panics and starts searching for him. There is an empty hole in her chest that was left by him. She sees him once more over Thanksgiving Break and realizes what he does. She will never be the same.

I love this author. The characters she creates are some of my favorites. So when I came across this book I was excited to see what she came up with. I was not disappointed. I couldn’t put it down. The paranormal spin was completely up my alley. She also put a unique story together about death. It was not your normal paranormal type of story.

She kept the reader guessing along with Pagan. I knew what he probably did but not necessarily who he actually was. The twists and turns were unexpected and the ending left you with questions that set up for the next book.

I loved the characters and how they related to each other. Leif came across as the sweetest boyfriend and you truly feel for him in the end. There is some hint that things aren’t always as they seem. Gee isn’t who she appears to be either. There are surprises everywhere. It was a great story and I can’t wait to read the next one. I give it a 4 out of 5.
