Review: Rescue Me by Jaci Burton

Rescue Me by Jaci Burton
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

OK so where do I start? I almost DNF but believe it or not I kept on because I hoped that it would get better but it didn't. The hero (Kyle the sexy rancher), OMG is horrible and I'm still shaking my head.

Now bear with me as I figure this out......okay?

1. Heroine (Savannah) leaves an abusive marriage where she's a pampered princess and not allowed to do anything for herself. Just look pretty and let hubs verbally/mentally abuse her.
2. When she gets away she decides her dream is to be a rancher. So she finds a failing ranch and invests in them as long as they teach her the life but they also teach her to live (like cook and seriously, magically with the power of a cookbook, she can cook even though she's never ever cooked a day in her life. She makes salmon patties and rice for her first meal with no help. Yeah right!)

Moving on......

3. One of the ranchers is a sexy but verbally abusive man who she's attracted to. (I'm seeing a pattern)
4. The family takes her under their wing and she feels loved for the first time in her life (her mother put her in child pageants as a kid to make money like that awful TV show).
5. Sexy rancher is having issues with neighbor who stole his nasty ex-wife. Big rivalry.
6. Sexy rancher uses heroine as his cover to prove he's moved on.
7. Ranch needs money, so heroine come up with a solution that works but steps on sexy ranchers’ ego.
8. Sexy rancher verbally abuses her over and over and kicks her to curb but (*dramatic drumroll*) there's a secret baby!
9. Sexy rancher finally decides to get his $hit together.

No matter what, I couldn't get past the fact that the hero is still a verbally abusive, hot headed, douche-canoe. Just because he's sexy doesn't forgive the fact that he's willing to kick the girl to the curb because his pride is hurt and if you think about it, basically the heroine is in an abusive cycle (even if she doesn't realize it, she moves from one abusive relationship to another to another).

Nope not my type of romance.
