Review: Crush by Lacey Weatherford

Book Blurb

Cami Wimberley has a plan, and that plan includes no room for boys—especially the big time party animal, Hunter Wilder, no matter how handsome and charismatic he is. She’s beautiful, a senior, extremely talented, gets good grades, and is working her way toward her dream college to be a musical theater major. Everything is perfect.

Hunter Wilder does not want a girlfriend—that would complicate his life way too much right now. He especially doesn’t want this girl, Miss-Goody-Two-Shoes, so how come he can’t keep his eyes off her? He tries to keep her at arms length, but fate seems to keep pushing them together. Before long, it’s obvious to everyone they’re crushing on each other.

As sparks begin to fly, Hunter finds himself sinking deeper and deeper into hot water. Soon he’s scrambling to keep Cami from discovering his dark secret—one that can destroy their entire relationship.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Cami is smart and pretty.  Her best friend is Clay and she is happy.  They have known each other since they were kids but Clay wants to change their relationship.  Cami doesn’t feel that way about him.
Hunter is the new guy in school and he thinks Cami is beautiful.  He is determined to admire her from afar until he sees how uncomfortable she is with her friend Clay.  He decides to ask her out.
Cami accepts and has fun with Hunter.  They grow closer as they spend more time together.  Hunter is torn.  He has secrets and shouldn’t be getting involved with Cami but he can’t help himself.  Cami worries about Hunter.  She knows he uses and has secrets.  She is also dealing with Clay.  He won’t leave her alone as she tries to make him see her feelings for him are only friendship.  However things aren’t always what they seem.
You knew there was a big secret from the beginning.  The author kept hinting that more was going on and Hunter wasn’t quite what he seemed.  I wasn’t quite sure what he was looking for but it was drug related.  Then the author throws in the situation with Clay.  The obsession in there but Cami can’t see it.  Hunter knows the danger.  I love how he was protective of her.  He was sweet even though he couldn’t tell her the truth.  Nothing like being stuck in a tough situation.
I feel for Cami and understand her side. You know things are going to explode and they do.  The situation with Clay comes to a head in a big way and Hunter’s secrets come out.  Cami is left in shock which is a normal reaction.  I don’t blame her.  I would be reeling myself.

I liked the story.  It kept you on your toes and trying to figure out what would be happening next.  It was a great read with smart characters.  I give it a 4 out of 5.
